When traveling to Australia no matter if it is your first time or are revisiting our wonderful country, the Great Ocean Road and Apollo Bay are to be considered one of the must sees on your trip.
It can be quite daunting to visit a place you have never been to especially when being in a foreign country that speaks a different language.
Rest assured here at Great Ocean Road Escapes we will do our very best to accomodate you and your needs.
Let me tell you about some great things to do while staying in Apollo Bay.
First things first, arrive at your beautiful accommodation, unpack and start exploring the township of Apollo Bay.
When strolling down the main street you will have shops, cafes and restaurants on one site and the vast stretch of blue bass strait on the other, it is hard not to see, smell or hear the ocean when holidaying at our ‘paradise by the sea’.
Our beaches are world famous but we have so much more to offer to you.
A great way to see our coast in a different way is through Apollo Bay Aviation, they offer various packages to experience the Twelve Apostles, Great Ocean Road and our iconic australian landscape from the air departing from Apollo Bay.
If you love nature why not book yourself a guided tour to see the elusive platypus in its natural environment.
Otway Eco Tours will take you on their dawn or dusk canoe tours, this is a rare chance to see Platypus in the wild. This surreal experience is one you will remember forever with fantastic opportunities to take some great holiday photos.
Another great way to experience local wildlife is to visit the Great Ocean Road Eco Wildlife Park. They are located on the Great Ocean Road between Lavers Hill and Princetown, just a 15 min drive from the famous Twelve Apostles. Entrance into the enclosures is permitted, for your opportunity to hand-feed kangaroos, wallabies, emu and deer. They have now completed their Dingo petting area which allows you the unique opportunity to interact, face to face, with the Australian Dingo.
If interested in historical sites do visit the Cape Otway Lightstation, you can walk their well maintained grounds, explore the Lighthouse and experience how life was like for men and women that worked and lived here hundreds of years ago. Join one of their guided tours to find out more about the historical value of this place alongside aboriginal culture and local bush tucker. Follow the Otway Harvest Trail to find some unique locale produce, fine foods and great tasting beverages. Produce is seasonal so please gather information on what is available during your visit before starting your trip. A great way to get your adrenaline rushing is one of the Otway Fly zip lining tours, here you can either walk their treetop trail or fly through the crowns of the rainforest, it is a fantastic way to explore and learn about the forest that surrounds our region. Between the ocean, scenic walks, majestic waterfalls and local attractions Apollo bay is the place to be on your trip to Australia.
